Lab notice Q3 point-cloud registration benchmark published — 41 control networks, full residual tables included. Read the benchmark

The laboratory

Six people, four instrument classes, and a rule that no accuracy figure leaves this building without a residual table behind it.

Why the lab exists

Voxelreach was founded in 2020 by two engineering surveyors who kept receiving scan deliverables with confident accuracy claims and no evidence. Asked for the control residuals, suppliers would send the instrument datasheet — a document describing performance under laboratory conditions that nobody's site resembles.

The lab was set up to do the opposite: publish the field data, including the captures that missed tolerance, and let asset owners judge for themselves. That is also why the research index is public rather than gated behind a contact form.

What we will not do

  • Quote an accuracy figure we cannot trace to a control network.
  • Accept a tolerance in a brief that no instrument can meet, then hope nobody checks.
  • Deliver a twin without a provenance record attached.
  • Take manufacturer funding for comparison work.

Instrument inventory

Two phase-shift scanners, one long-range time-of-flight instrument, a laser tracker, a structured light system for small objects and a UAV platform for exterior photogrammetry. Instruments are calibration-checked on a fixed schedule and the check records form part of every project file.

Accreditation & standards

We work to published standards and say plainly which ones we are certified against versus which ones we merely follow.

ISO 17025Calibration procedures aligned; laboratory accreditation in progress, not yet granted
ISO 19650Information management followed for all BIM handover work
VCA*Site safety certification held, renewed 2025
NEN 3610Geospatial data model applied on Dutch infrastructure projects

Note on the first entry: our procedures are written to ISO 17025 and audited internally, but formal accreditation has not yet been awarded. We state this rather than implying certification we do not hold.
